Update July 2024

Dear friends and supporters,

Since our last update last quarter in April, there have been quite a few very things going on in our little world! It’s exciting!

BBC Gardeners World Spring Fair

Firstly, we had a wonderful time at the BBC Gardeners World Spring Fair, running several workshops over the three days where we met many children (and their parents and grandparents) whom we hope we have inspired to be Budding Little Gardeners with our ‘Meet the Plants’ sessions and cactus-potting workshops.

You can view the photos and read more about the event here: https://cheeseplantbooks.com/bbc-gardeners-world-spring-fair-2024/

50% off and free postage!
I am trying to sell off books that we printed for the event, with the BBC logo at 50% off RRP, plus free p&p in the UK. This means that each book only costs you £7.50.

Prestige Award’s South England Publisher of the Year

We went to collect this award, with the ‘we’ being me and Ellen Bella Cheese, arguably the most famous cheese plant in the UK.

Ellen travels widely in the UK for events and book signings. You can read about her take on life here: https://worldgardenschools.org/ellen-bella-cheese/#:~:text=I%20am%20a%20working%20cheese,cheese%20plants%2C%20kindness%20and%20love.

Next Generation Indie Book Award

A finalist this time in the highly regarded international award! Let’s aim to win next year! Because of considerations for the planet, I did not fly to the US to pick up the award. I think it is so important to walk the talk, meaning that as Cheese Plant Books was founded on principles of CDE&I and green philosophy (and we won the Prestige Award for those founding principles), then I should be mindful about not travelling long haul unless absolutely necessary rather than burning up carbon miles wantonly.

BMCG ESG Awards

Our partner school, Nexus International School Malaysia, is also a Finalist in the BMGG ESG Awards against some of the largest corporates in the world! Congratulations to Nexus, especially Madeleine Proud, Director of Global Citizenship at the school!

Asian Kid Abroad book (second edition) is now sold out!

Asian Kid Abroad is a university guide book that students from Nexus and other schools in Kuala Lumpur produced, supported by Cheese Plant Books, to raise money for local charity, PAWS Malaysia. It is a practical, no-nonsense guide and sold very well. Students who bought this book was also on a seminar with Nyasha Chidume from LeadingCEO on how to write CVs.

Celebrating a new author!

I met India Lauren Hicks in Cornwall by chance. She self-published her book, Becoming: A Very Long Path & The Awakening of a Goddess, about her 630 mile walk to find herself. India walked the South West Coast Path alone to escape “emotional turmoil in an unhealthy relationship”. You can buy India’s book here:

Please do support an indie author. It is so difficult for us to make our mark. And by the way, India is also a great craftswoman. Check out her website: https://ilhhandcrafted.com/

Finally…..

Embarking on an exciting project, first conceived two years ago, whilst sitting in a little town square in Mallorca. Went back again last week and am super excited, as it involved my friends! Watch this space!

Please don’t forget to order the book at a whopping 50% discount and free shipping in the UK!

Big hugs,
Jacqueline
